Background and Theory of Rock School
The Upper Valley Rock School was concieved in November 2006 as a means of bringing young musicians who were competent with their individual instruments into a setting where they could develop skills to allow them to creatively express their musical notions. Curriculum is designed to allow students to write their own songs and have them performed by fellow students. Additional curriculum allows for sound engineering to be taught to and explored by the students. Four of the five classes are comprised of students in middle and high school and the towns from which they hail are not offering similar curriculum. Rock School is funded partially through tuition and partially through funding from local corporate underwriters who have provided for purchase of certain infrastructure items, have donated services or have contributed to scholarships or performance fund. Rock School collaborates with other area non profits such as the Lebanon Opera House, Pentangle Council of the Arts, and CATV and with area schools by providing options for students ready for more creative options than can be offered in the public school setting. |
