Upper Valley Rock School is pleased to announce its summer camps for 2009.
Starting the week of June 29th, these intensive, one week sessions are for musicians of all types - vocalists, keyboardists, bassists, guitarists, wind/brass players or string players, of all levels and abilities. Camps will be held from 11 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday-Friday at Lewiston Hall on the campus of the Upper Valley Events Center. Please bring a bag lunch and a set of ear plugs! Both camps will make time for jamming, improv, recording and songwriting but each will emphasize a different aspect for the modern musician. This summer’s sessions will be taught by Julian DeFelice, an experienced songwriter and producer with a varied and impressive musical background. For more on Julian, click on the Instructors link on our site. More information on each camp is below. Each weekly camp will cost $200.

Songwriting Camps- Weeks of June 29th, July 13th, Aug. 3rd
Good songwriting will never go out of style. Learn skills that will help you in your own songwriting and get the guided experience from writing with a group to further your expression and unique talents. Songwriting Camps will emphasize instrumental improvisation, vocal training, technique and lyric coaching. This camp will also cover arrangement, recording techniques, harmony and voice work for the solo artist or band. Camps will feature special guests and bands who are music professionals. We will work on your original songs and write/learn songs together as a class.
Recording Camps- Weeks of July 6th, July 27th, Aug. 8th
This is a wonderful time to be a musician. Finally, with little financial investment, you can produce and stylize your music and distribute it to the world through the internet. Come learn the art and technology of Recording and Production here at Upper Valley Rock School. Recording Camps will include training in recording, working with mixing boards, sound design and digital software to enhance and catalog your songwriting. There will also be weekly guests who currently work in the music industry. We will spend time recording projects worked on in class and the songs you bring with you. |
General Rock School Information
Our challenge: Show us a person, young or old, who doesn’t like music!
Upper Valley Presents’ Rock School is a community-based educational program that teaches creativity, teamwork, social skills and builds self-esteem and confidence through music. Our mission is to create a positive atmosphere in which students are motivated and encouraged through hands-on learing to achieve their own personal fulfillment, whether through instrumentation, song writing, singing, or recording. We strive to bring communities together, to reach out to kids, young or old, and to create an atmosphere that truly Rocks! From here, we will expand our vision and hope that other communities will recognize the value that music plays in the lives of our students and audiences everywhere.
Classes are offered that allow vocalists, drummers, rhythm and lead guitarists and bassists of all ages and abilities to participate. Rock School teaches rock, jazz, blue grass or any genre in which you may be interested. Additionally, existing bands can sign up with the school for coaching and production of their own CD.
PA and session infrastructure including drums & keyboard is provided, you bring your own amp and guitar.
Come and have a free look/discussion with on of our instructors in advance. You will be placed with like-minded and ability players. Or, come with your existing band - special rates apply. We schedule eight classes followed by a public recital for those who are ready. Classes may meet any weekday at 4:30 to 6:30 or 7 to 9 PM. Saturday and Sunday afternoon classes are possible as well. Call (802) 526 2055 for current session dates and class schedules.
Rock School is brought to you by Upper Valley Presents, a Vermont nonprofit that celebrates neighborhood by bringing educational and artistic events to the Upper Valley. Other programs brought by UVP are Summer Days Camp, Music Together (a family music programs for ages birth to K) and Open Air Summer Family Concert series.
Sponsors and Partners of Rock School include Lebanon Opera House, Hypertherm, Pentagle Council of the Arts, CATV, GroSolar, Whaleback Ski Area, TransCanada, Hanover Strings and Blue Mountain Guitar. Also, kudos to the efforts of the parents of players for getting them to where they are in their lives and where they need to be each week.
